In Australia, there are more semesters for elementary school and high school compared to Taiwan. There are four semesters in Australian elementary school and high schools. The first one starts at the end of January and ends in early April. The second one begins from the end of April or early May to the end of June. The third one begins from mid-July to the mid-September. The last one begins from the mid-October to mid- December.
For Taiwanese elementary and high schools, there are only two semesters. The first one begins in autumn. It is called Autumn semester. It starts in early September and ends in January. The second one is called the Spring semester, and it begins from February to June.
Australian university academic year is different from that of Taiwan’s. The academic year for Taiwan’s university is the same as that of Taiwan’s elementary school and junior/senior high school. In Australia, though, most universities have two semesters in an academic year. Semester One starts at the end of February and ends in June. Semester Two is from mid-July to the end of October.
Studying in Taiwan is no longer than in Australia. School education in Taiwan is 12 years; in Australia, it is 13 years. Students in Australia must go to kindergarten first, followed by an elementary school and high school.
